Story

On the 12th April 2026 I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Sarcoma. This will be my first ever Half Marathon having only started running in May 2025.

I have chosen to run for Sarcoma UK for my friend Becky. In November 2024 at the age of 33 and 35 weeks pregnant she was diagnosed with a 13cm Sarcoma Tumour. This was obviously a huge shock to all her family and friends. On the 30th November, the day after been diagnosed, baby Rosie was born weighing a little 5lb 3oz. She knew she needed to say hello to the world! Where Becky should have been in her newborn baby bubble with her Husband, son Alfie (age 7) and new baby Rosie, this was the beginning of the complete opposite and what can only be described as a horrible dream that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.

Due to the size of Becky’s tumour, food was unable to pass through her stomach, she lost 17kg in weight in 10 days and was extremely poorly. From giving birth to Rosie she remained in hospital for a period of 3 months, under going countless procedures to try regain weight and strength in order to prepare her for surgery to remove her tumour. The sheer strength of determination of her to get through this time is something so inspirational no words can even describe it.

In January 2025 Becky had a whipple procedure, this is a major surgical operation to remove the head of the pancreas, the duodenum (first part of the small intestine), the gallbladder, and a portion of the bile duct. This surgery came with life changing circumstances that will continue to affect Becky for the rest of her life. Her surgery was a success and all the tumour was removed. Post surgery she finally came home in February 2025, again building her strength back up for a very intensive Chemotherapy cycle which was to commence in March 2025.

On the 17th March 2025 Becky then began an extensive Chemotherapy cycle of 4 rounds, she had to be a hospital inpatient for 4 days on each round with a 2 week break in between, hooked up to a continuous drip machine 24 hours a day for the whole 4 days again having to stay away from her family. Although we all visited plenty of times! I even set up a nail salon and we laughed at the rubbish chat magazines, we tried to make the best of a shit situation. She had 2 different types of chemotherapy on each round, with this came horrendous side effects I won’t go into the list as there are too many!! Within weeks after her 1st round she began to lose her hair, which was soul destroying for her, as it would be anyone!

She powered through all 4 rounds of chemotherapy! & at the end she rung that bell for all to hear.

On the 30th June 2025, she received the news we were all hoping for, that the surgery and chemotherapy had been a complete success and there were no signs of any cancer in her body! Becky will continue to be scanned every 3 months for at least 5 years in order to ensure the cancer stays away, but this is something that although she has overcome and survived, it will stay with her forever.

I have never met anyone with as much strength and determination. At such a young age and a clear love for life, she is living proof of what can be achieved and is now living her best life. We love you so much Becky!!!

That’s my why. That’s why I’m running this race, to raise as much money as possible for a charity which has supported Becky and her family and without it may not have been able to provide her surgeons and consultants with the knowledge needed to help her survive this awful disease. If Becky can survive what she has this last year I can certainly run 21.1km!!

So please, if you can, however small, sponsor me to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon in aid of Sarcoma UK, all proceeds will go to this amazing charity!

Thank you so much for reading. Ebony x
