This June Charles Kelechi Jr Ukandu and I, Yousif Elsharkawy, intend on embarking on a medical brigade to Ghana via the charity global brigades. Last year this same trip helped us treat nearly 1000 patients, paying for their annual insurance, offering appointments in our pop up clinics and supplying medications. This experience was truly life changing as seeing the impact of the work we do to fundraise throughout the year come to fruition brought a degree of fulfilment and gratitude that I couldn’t attribute to anything else. It may not seem like a team of medical students can provide much service to under resourced communities however I urge you that this is far from the truth. This year we intend to cover more than just healthcare, aiming to bring essential supplies such as clothes, school supplies and a range of other items to help empower the community as best as possible.
