Story
On June 6, 2026, I'll be running the Grand Teton Half Marathon, not only for the challenge, but also for a cause that's deeply personal to me. I've committed to raising funds for the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) by registering as a Charity Bib, and I'd greatly appreciate your support!
My health journey has run into impactful hurdles since I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2020 at a Hemoglobin A1c of 12.4%. I have always been a huge foodie growing up and ate to my hearts content (if you ask any of my friends or family I'm confident they can confirm this statement). After my diagnosis, I struggled to find balance between managing my diet, taking medication, and building a more active lifestyle without feeling overwhelmed by all the change.
The five years following my diagnosis were filled with ups and downs. Diabetes is a relentless disease, and learning how to effectively manage it consistently has been one of the most difficult things for me to do personally. By 2024, I successfully reduced my Hemoglobin A1c from 12.4% to 5.3% through lifestyle changes and medication. Feeling proud of my progress, I made a major decision to pause medications, only to discover last year that I had been misdiagnosed and actually had Type 1 Diabetes.
While this new diagnosis is something I'm learning to adjust to, it has further strengthened my belief in the importance of diabetes research. I've always hoped to one day reach long-term remission, but more than anything believe that finding a cure would change millions of lives around the world, including mine.
My experiences have driven me to learn to enjoy running as a means to improve my lifestyle while connecting with others along the way who may be working on their own goals and aspirations.
The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) has a simple yet powerful message: "to provide the Diabetes Research Institute with the funding necessary to cure diabetes – a testament to the belief that tomorrow is not soon enough to cure those living with diabetes". Supporting DRIF means contributing toward real progress to a future without diabetes.
Once I reach my goal, I'll earn my spot at the starting line! If my story resonates with you, I'd be incredibly grateful for your support, whether through a donation or sharing this campaign to others. If you got this far, thank you for taking the time to learn about me and helping me run toward a hopeful future.
