Story

Hi everyone, Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page !

This year I have the pleasure of being able to compete in the southwest strongman competition on the 2nd of August, and I wanted to take the opportunity to be able to help a wonderful charity in the process.

The charity I have picked is the Marfan Trust, a charity helping those with Marfan Syndrome and Loeys-Dietz syndromes.

Marfan syndrome is an inherited disorder of the body’s connective tissue that leads to medical problems affecting the heart, eyes and skeleton, requiring treatment to prevent life-threatening complications.

It affects men, women and children of any race or ethnic group. Over 18,000 people are affected by Marfan syndrome in the UK, and many of these are undiagnosed.

The reason why I have picked this charity is because my dad, my hero, has Marfan, and my nan who is sadly no longer with us, also had the condition.

I have seen first hand the effects of Marfan on people and the families of people effected by it, it really is a challenge, but with the help of the Marfan trust, more research can be done to help prevent deaths and help can be given to those and their families who are struggling.

I promised my dad that I will do the best I possibly can on the day of the competition, but most of all I want to make people more aware of the condition and to do my bit to help those who need it most !

The competition is taking place on the 2nd of August as part of the fitness fest on Commercial Wharf, Barbican, Plymouth.

There will be plenty going on at the event so please do come by !

Thank you !
