Cycling home from the Arctic Circle to fundraise for a school in Ghana

For £25 per month you can sponsor a child This is a fantastic way of supporting the educational needs of the pupils at Awutu Winton School. By the end of 2024 we are looking to have sponsorship for the majority of the 500 pupils at the school. You can sign up on justgiving.com to become a sponsor for a monthly contribution of £25 (£300 per annum). Each sponsor will be allocated one of our current students who will write to you via EDP UK at least twice a year, with an update on their progress at the school. We now have just under 80 students sponsored and with a population of 520 this year we still have some way to go! As an indication of the expenses involved in running the school, each student costs around £300 a year to finance in terms of the infrastructure and overheads; this excludes the general cost of staffing as the majority of the teachers and ancillary staff are financed by the Government, as part of our joint venture. This means we have to find around £150,000 each year just to keep the school going.

Story

Ed and Max will cycle back to the UK from the Arctic Circle to fundraise for Awutu-Winton Senior High School in Ghana. This adventure, which is over 3000km, will raise money for the installation of a solar power system which will allow the school to become independent from the unreliable electricity grid. This power supply will enable the constant operation of the school's water purifier and lighting to improve education and living standards for students... but only with YOUR help, so please donate generously!

The school wants to use the installation to start a solar course and provide Ghanaian students with the skills to bring energy security to more schools and communities throughout the country.

Our adventure will be self-funded so all donations will go directly to the charity, and we will be camping on the sides of fjords to save money. To follow our journey, find us on these links below:
