We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Following the success of Run for Rob 2024 and raising just shy of £2k for MIND mental health charity, the equivalent of paying for one member of staff to man their 24 hour help-line for 15 days. Giving people 15 more days of chances to get help.

Suicide doesn’t simply stop the pain you are feeling. It spreads the pain and it amplifies it. If you are feeling worthless and feel that your removal from life will generate a net good then you couldn’t be more wrong. If you find yourself asking why? What is the point? What’s the point of going to work? To school? Then the answer is this is the point, that someone somewhere will feel pain and sadness at your loss. For Rob it was many, and in doing this we keep him and his memory going, that a part of him will always continue.

I have been there, self destructing is the worst amongst my many flaws I’ll admit. Culminating in hospital in January 2023 asking myself what I was really doing with my life. When it feels like the tide is rising and there is no escape I can promise you there is. Just like Rob didn’t tell me he was struggling I never told him I was either, left wondering if telling him might have opened the door for a two way conversation about how we can make ourselves feel better and improve our mental health.

You may ask what is the point of money you can’t buy happiness. No that is absolutely correct but you can buy people time. A conversation with a helpline can delay someone’s decision by a day, one more day they may change their mind and seek help. You can buy a day of survival and often in cases of mental health that is all it is, survival.

To help remember Rob I will be running from where him and I went to university at Bath Spa University to where Rob and I went to school at the Kings School Worcester. The weekend of 10th of October to the 12th of October I will run 27 miles on the Friday, 24 miles on the Saturday and 14 miles on the Sunday to finish at the gates to College Green/Worcester Cathedral. A distance of 65 miles (104 km). The reason for today to start the donations page is due to the fact I’ve just completed 106km of training runs in a month. So I have 9 months to shorten that to 3 days. Against Robs dads advice I will be starting in bath and heading up hill, starting at Robins memorial leaf at the Bath Spa memorial tree.

If you want to see my progress of training feel free to follow @runforrobtraining on instagram to see me hopefully get better at long distance running.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Please share, donate and reach out to the MIND 24 hour helpline whenever you need.
