Story
Most of you know that I have Muscular Dystrophy. MD is a rare condition with several variant subgroups, I've got Limb Girdle 2A. In Scotland there's approximately 9,000 MD sufferers, not sure how many are type 2A. That's why my wife Linda and I are raising money for Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK).
MDUK is the charity for over 111,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. They provide vital information and support to help people live as independently as possible. They are making a difference for the future, accelerating progress in research and driving the campaign for access to emerging treatments.
I've been very fortunate throughout my life considering the progressive muscle wasting but this year has been the worst since my teens when first diagnosed in 1972. From 16 to 19 I lost the ability to run (never was a good runner) and play sports leaving me walking with difficulty and prone to fall over easily. There was also the emotional and psychological impact to overcome and reset my thoughts and ambitions for my life. Fortunately I got great support from my family and friends and also essentially important my faith and spiritual growth.
Linda is baking cake for MDUK's Bake A Difference Day and selling slices and fairy cakes at school, church and to friends for donations.
I'm taking the easier route, i.e. this online fund raiser, aimed mainly at the unfortunate (you?) too far away to benefit from getting Linda's wonderful cake.
We'll be very pleased and grateful for any donations be it £1, £5, £10, £20, or whatever £s. It all goes direct to MDUK via JustGiving. If you're a tax payer please tick the Gift Aid box if you can, it'll mean an extra 25% from the government (great!!!).
So, it's a case of "Let them eat cake!". For the fortunate ones nearby it's great as they really can eat cake but for the rest of you I'm sorry, it's really "Cough up the dough!"
Best wishes and blessings to you all.
Thanks,
Eddie & Linda
