Next Sunday 21 September 2025, I will be participating in the Run Reigate Half Marathon to raise money for Home Start East Surrey. This weekend I have warmed up by completing a Sprint Triathlon-750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run🏃 … and yes, this is probably slightly crazy!!

As many of you will know, I have been a Home Start Volunteer for 2 years and have worked hard to support local families in need- everything from helping take Mum and children to toddler groups; bringing my guitar and violin to teach music and songs; helping Mum to prepare her toddler for a 2 year check up; supporting Mum in teaching her 6 year old phonics and reading; applying for nursery places and completing forms to gain additional financial support…. All small and positive changes which have had a huge impact.

Many of the families do not have the extended network of family and friends to support them with under 5s or access to the sort of education and resources which many of us take for granted. So the work of Home Start volunteers is invaluable.

Last year HSES supported 337 local young children in families, either through the volunteer home visiting service, nurture group for babies under 1, invited play sessions or parenting courses.

Home Start is a small charity that changes the lives of children in the Redhill, Merstham, Horley, Reigate, Tandridge and Mole Valley areas.

They need over 200k a year to continue to make a difference, and every year, demand for the service increases.
