Nathan Whitelaw is raising money for Rowan Boland Memorial Trust

Edinburgh To Galashiels Ultra · 12 October 2025

The Trust provides junior sports people in the Scottish Borders with assistance to further their sporting careers. The Trust recognises the increasing financial burden of training/competing at the higher end of sport and offers financial assistance to juniors who have proven ability in their sport.

Story

In October I will be running my first Ultra Marathon, completely solo. This run from Edinburgh (starting from behind my workplace office on Rose Street) to Galashiels (finishing in the Rowan Boland Memorial Park) will total 52km/32 miles.

As someone who has been able to transform their life through sport it has become evident how important access to it is. The Rowan Boland Memorial Trust’s mission to provide young people with the funds to access sport has therefore become one that I can identify with a lot.

One thing I’ve consistently wanted to do since I started running was to push myself further and faster. Since completing my first marathon earlier in the year, it only seemed right that my next challenge should be an Ultra.
