Losing Dad at the age of 73 after a brave year long battle against Oesophageal cancer was tough to take for all the family. We had been through this 19 years earlier when grandad, Bernard Borrill had the same Oesophageal cancer. Dad knew the signs + symptoms and despite getting early medical input there was a lengthy delay to diagnosis and ultimately starting treatment and finally getting to surgery. Unfortunately going through all this only to find the cancer had spread and become terminal shortly after Christmas in 2024.

Ever since this time I have wanted to raise money in his name to help others, to improve access to diagnostic tests, to have better research to find cures for cancer and help others not to lose loved ones so early.

Finally the time is right to put a concerted effort into a challenge. But the challenge needed to be significant enough to ask for donations. So eventually I came up with the idea of riding from Edinburgh to Scunthorpe. A total of approximately 280 miles over 3 days.

It will be much more than I have ever ridden before. It will be tough on the legs and the bum, but mentally it will be a lot less than what Dad and Grandad faced so it is something which I will push through to complete.

This solo ride will start with an early train from Doncaster to Edinburgh before commencing the return journey on two wheels leaving Edinburgh on Friday 22nd May returning into Scunthorpe on Sunday 24th May in time for the Premier League finale.
