Story
On July 26th-27th, I am going to be running 5km every hour for 24 hours to raise funds for an incredible cause. I will be fundraising for the Size of Wales project which supports the Wampís Indigenous Nation.
The Wampís are an Indigenous Nation from the Peruvian Amazon. Their territory spans nearly 1.4 million hectares and is a world-renowned hotspot for biodiversity.
For millennia, the Wampís have protected and lived in harmony with their rainforest. Today, that forest is under increasing threat from illegal logging, gold mining, and oil exploitation. Size of Wales – a Welsh climate change charity – is working in partnership with the Wampís Nation to safeguard their land through forest patrols, monitoring efforts, and the development of sustainable livelihoods, with a strong focus on empowering women in the community.
Research shows that forests managed by Indigenous Peoples experience significantly lower rates of deforestation. Supporting communities like the Wampís is not only vital for protecting biodiversity, but also for securing a liveable global climate for us all.
Please support if you can and thank you very much for reading.
