700km for Burundi: A Ride of Stamina, Perseverance, and Hope

From the 7th to the 13th of June 2025, we—Ed, Ed, and Jim—will be taking on an extraordinary challenge: cycling 700km over 7 days across Burundi, one of the poorest nations in the world. This test of endurance is not just about pushing our physical and mental limits but about raising crucial funds for Great Lakes Outreach (GLO), an incredible charity working to bring lasting transformation to the people of Burundi.

Why Burundi?

Burundi is a small, landlocked country in East Africa, ranked among the world’s most impoverished nations. Decades of political instability, conflict, and economic hardship have left the country struggling with extreme poverty, malnutrition, and a lack of access to education and healthcare. Despite its challenges, Burundi is a nation filled with resilience, hope, and people striving for a better future.

Our Goal: £25,000 to Transform Lives

We are aiming to raise £25,000, which will represent a huge opportunity to improve the quality of life for countless people in Burundi. This amount will help fund vital projects run by Great Lakes Outreach, making a tangible impact by:

Empowering young entrepreneurs to build sustainable businesses and create jobs

Providing education for children who might otherwise never step into a classroom

Ensuring access to healthcare in communities that desperately need it.

Supporting vulnerable families to break the cycle of poverty

Every pound raised will contribute to creating sustainable change, helping to lift individuals and communities out of poverty and giving them the tools to build a brighter future. Our £ goes up to 10X further in Burundi, so £25k is the equivalent of raising up to a quarter of million pounds!

Cycling 700km in Burundi will be no easy feat. The route will take us through mountainous terrain, unpredictable road conditions, all while facing high temperatures and humidity. This ride is a test of stamina and perseverance, mirroring the daily struggles of many Burundians who face immense hardships but never give up.
