55th OMM 2024 (The Original Mountain Marathon) · 26 October 2024

HASAG provides support for sufferers and their families affected by asbestos-related disease, giving benefit and compensation advice. Signposting for better information, treatments and all round care of patients. Advocacy for patients and their families, monthly coffee mornings & counselling.

Story

This October I will be taking on the Southern Scottish Highlands for a two day Original Mountain Marathon.

"A self-reliant 2-day journey through some of the UK’s finest mountain terrain, a new area each year; a true test of mountain craft, resilience & sense of humour."

Entirely unsupported, myself and a friend will need to navigate our way across new and unchartered (to us) terrain to meet a number of checkpoints before the weekend is over. All of my years in the Scouts has been leading up to this incredibly tough challenge, and I would like to take the opportunity to raise some money for a very special cause.

Why?

Last September my dad, Chris, was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, an aggressive form of asbestos-related cancer. We said goodbye to him only 9 months later on 21st May 2024. Throughout this hard and traumatic time, HASAG have been an incredible source of comfort, support and resources to allow Dad to make the most of his last few months and connect him with all the help he could access. I would like to raise money in his memory, in the hope that HASAG can continue to provide more help to similar families and Mesothelioma sufferers.
