Story
In 2023 I suffered an Aortic Dissection at the age of 29, which resulted in a long open heart surgery, replacing my ascending aorta with a prosthetic tube and my aortic valve with a ticking monster. It sucks!
After a long year of recovery, where I started from barely being able to walk around the block, to being able to walk the hills of the peaks, I decided I would take up jogging. I am not fast, I never will be, but considering I pump blood through some random tube attached to my heart I do okay.
Last year I did a couple of 10k's, one of which was for this same charity. This year I want to do a half marathon. I live in Sheffield, and people talk about how hard the first half uphill is, so why not make that my first one. It can surely only get easier from here.
I have been training for a long while doing 5-10k's regularly. This will be the furthest I have ever run. The charity I have picked is the Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust, who help people who suffer AD (normally a lot older than I am).
