Story
I’m taking part in Race Across the World with Project Trust to support the next generation of Volunteers preparing for their international placements.
As a Returned Volunteer, I know first-hand the impact a placement can have: building confidence, resilience, independence and global understanding in ways that stay with you long after you return home.
Today’s Volunteers are facing rising costs and increasing financial barriers. That’s why I’m fundraising to help Project Trust raise the additional 30% needed on top of every Volunteer’s placement fee -currently around £2,235 per Volunteer.
This vital fundraising helps make placements possible and ensures more young people can access the same life-changing experience that I was lucky enough to have.
Any support, donation or share would mean a huge amount. Thank you for helping future Volunteers begin their journey.
MY VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE
I was a Project Trust volunteer in 1990. I spent a year at Phuthing school in South Africe. It was a multi-racial school which was ground breaking for the time. Work was supporting the school function and its community out reach. We got involved in many interesting activities such as South African Youth Symoposiam an organisation that bought together teenagers from the divided communities of the time to have fun together and make friends. We also had chance to travel around the country and experience its beauty. We benefitted hugely from the generosity and friendliness of all the people we met. The year openned my eyes to the diversity of the world aswell as teaching me alot about myself. It was a fantastic experience!
For the challenge i am part of team Africa and we will be the logging milage of our runs, walks cycles as we race to complete 3000miles as a team.
