Story

The University of Manchester Egyptology Research Fund supports research projects conducted by Egyptologists in the Department of Classics, Ancient History, Archaeology and Egyptology.

Donations to the fund are currently used to support the Tell Nabasha Project, directed by Dr Nicky Nielsen, which conducts excavations near the modern town of El-Hosayneya in the north-eastern Nile Delta.

The most recent excavation season, Autumn 2024, revealed the presence of a significant Late Period settlement which included so-called "tower houses" and also unearthed several hundred fascinating ancient artefacts, including a Hathoric bronze sistrum. You can read the results of the last season's work here.

Donations to the Research Fund will be used to support future excavation seasons.

As of August 2026, security permissions and excavation permits have been secured and the next season of the Tell Nabasha Project is planned for January 2027!
