Story
In October 2023 I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. The next few months were a blur of tests, appointments and ultimately a radical nephrectomy. I was extremely fortunate from when the cancer was found during a CT Scan for unrelated problems, to the total success of the op, thanks to the urology team at my local hospital. Throughout this time I hardly told a soul, the words just didn't come out. As time went on I was floored by a fatigue that I'd never experienced before, it never occurred to me, that by locking my cancer experience inside, I'd forced my mind into shut down. By chance I saw a Kidney Cancer UK post on FB and I made contact. The help I've received has been like letting the sunshine in after a long, dark winter.
I'm taking part in the 25-Mile Challenge Walk to raise money for Kidney Cancer UK. This charity is the only one in the UK dedicated solely to supporting kidney cancer patients, their families, and carers, while funding vital research and raising awareness of this often-overlooked disease. Kidney cancer is frequently diagnosed late because it can have no symptoms until it’s advanced.
By walking 25 miles, I hope to help make a difference, and if I can do it, my personal aim is to walk 50 miles and really help to make a difference!
Every step I take will be for someone facing the challenges of kidney cancer. Please sponsor me and help fund life-changing support and research. 💚
