Richmond Park Half Marathon · 21 January 2024

Our vision for 2030 is that women and young people everywhere can amplify their voices and take action to achieve the fullest potential in a just and sustainable world that works for them. We AMPLIFY local ideas, and communities ACT to deliver them, and together real change happens!

Story

I'm running my first ever Half Marathon in Richmond Park on 21st Jan (brrrr)!! I wanted to do this in January to challenge myself to get outside more across winter for my mental health - which so far has been really beneficial and I have found myself getting out a lot more than I usually do!

I am also raising money for a Charity very close to my heart! Whilst I know it is Christmas time and times are tough - it would mean the world to me if you could spare a few pounds to go towards such a good cause!

Amplify Action is an international Charity that I have been volunteering for for a few years...

It is a pioneering force that supports locally-led civil society organisations in Malawi and Ghana who seek to take action and alleviate the most vulnerable in their communities out of poverty as to achieve their fullest potential in a just and sustainable world that works for them.

This is done through community engagement in all sectors of public Education initiatives for sustainable community growth and development. This mission ensures that marginalized populations (children, girls, and youth) are accorded their fundamental rights and equitable access to Health, Education and Developmental services through capacity building, social mobilization, and economic empowerment.

At Amplify Action.. we seek opportunities to amplify the actions taken by our partners through the provision of funding for interventions they want to deliver to improve their own communities.

We support our partners to increase their technical capacities and capabilities to create change from within their own communities.

Everything we do, we do together. We are led by the knowledge of the communities we work in, we learn from the people we work with, and we listen to the people we work for.

At the moment I have been applying for grants for CECESD (Centre for Community Education and Social Development) who want to raise funds for two Primary Schools in Malawi who are without any desks or chairs. This means that due to no flooring, boys and girls sit on the exposed ground - making school an uncomfortable place to learn. This discomfort can distract children from their lessons, disrupting their learning and performance.

The money raised from this fundraiser will go to towards these resources that are essential in providing quality education to young students in Malawi to encourage their development through classroom engagement. This development benefits personal and community wellbeing by building capacity to participate in decision making, possibilities to live a healthy life, opportunities to employment and income sources which are sufficient to achieve a decent life, opportunities for social participation and the right to develop identity and social integration.

What I love most about Amplify Action is the focus on sustainability, inclusivity and empowerment of local people - it is truly a force for good that hopes one day that we will not be needed - as communities will have the tools to lift themselves out of poverty !

Thank you for your support! If you could share this with friends and family it would mean the world and more :)
