Story
Since January, I’ve been volunteering as a paediatric registrar at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in the warm heart of Africa: Malawi. I’ve had the privilege of caring for hundreds (?thousands) of Malawian children. What I’ve been able to give through my time here, is really nothing compared to what I have gained from this experience. So, I am asking for your help to support amazing paediatric department through a donation to FOSCiM (Friends of Sick Children in Malawi).
Malawi is the fourth poorest country in the world, and over half its population are children. Currently more than half of Malawi’s health funding comes from donors. With the freezing of USAID, and cuts to Eurpoean foreign aid budgets, they now face extra challenges to cover the funding gaps in the health sector.
FOSCiM is a dedicated charity that helps fund essential medications, investigations, education, and equipment for the paediatric department at QECH. They also help supply infant formula for mothers/guardians who have no means to feed their babies. Unfortunately, this is too common an occurrence and babies are literally starving to death due to lack of access to milk.
Right now, the department is critically low on funds for special investigations: tests that are not available through government funding but are extremely important diagnostic tools e.g. blood electrolytes or thyroid function tests.
To raise funds, I’m taking on a challenge: a three-day hike to the summit of Mulanje Massif, the highest peak in southern central Africa at 3002m. It’s a small effort in the scheme of things but I would really appreciate your support. Every donation—big or small—goes directly to helping some of the most vulnerable children get the care they urgently need.
Thank you
