RSBC believe every blind child and their family should have the skills and confidence they need to live their life without limits. We work with blind children and young people and their families to develop the skills they need to overcome the barriers to realising their hopes, dreams and ambitions.

Story

From Zero to Half Marathon. 76 Days. One Reason.

On 11th October 2026, I’ll be standing on the start line of the Leicester Half Marathon.

Today, I’m starting from zero.

Not because I love running. Not because this has always been on my bucket list. But because our family’s world changed.

Recently, we found out that our baby son currently can’t see. We’re still going through tests to understand the extent of his visual impairment, and while we don’t yet have all the answers, we’ve already experienced the fear, uncertainty and overwhelming emotions that come with hearing news like this.

During this journey, we’ve discovered the incredible work of the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC). They don’t just support children with visual impairments—they support entire families, helping them navigate a future that can suddenly feel so uncertain.

No family should have to face that journey alone.

So I’ve given myself 76 days to go from zero running experience to completing a half marathon.

Every mile I run will be for my son.

Every training session will remind me why I started.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help RSBC continue supporting blind children and the families who need them most.

If my legs start to hurt, I’ll remember that some challenges are far greater than 13.1 miles.

Thank you for supporting me, supporting my family, and most importantly, supporting children who deserve every opportunity to thrive.

Let’s make every step count.
