Story
On the 21st-22nd March, 1st Hilperton Scout Group will be taking on our pump2pump challenge, starting at Hilperton village pump and finishing at the pump house in Bristol, walking a total of 30 miles over 2 days. To make this challenge even harder, we will be pushing a toilet the whole way to raise awareness of the importance of sanitation and fresh water.
Every step we take and every pound we raise will help the fountain of life create life-changing water pumps, providing safe drinking water for families and communities in Sub-Saharan West Africa through appropriate technologies and education.
Why have we chosen Fountain of Life?
The icon of Hilperton's old village pump can be found on the back of our Group neckers. We hope that we will be able to raise enough money to provide 10 boreholes and pumps to those who need them.
Appropriate technology must be simple enough that it can be managed directly and on a local level, making use of skills, technology and materials that are available in the local community. Providing communities and families with boreholes. Each bore hole costs £180
In order to have a longer lasting, further reaching impact, they aim to train and teach reliable and competent people who will then be competent to train and teach others.
