Story
Myself and my husband Stuart have been trying to start our family for well over a year now and had started the process of seeking fertility support.
Just after our first wedding anniversary, all of our dreams came true and we found out I was pregnant. Every tear shed, every day wondering if it would happen for us, every flinch at another pregnancy announcement was finally worth it. We were going to be parents.
After a visit to my GP we were sent for an early scan, we still couldn't believe it was out turn!
A heartbeat, we were instantly in love with a little blob on a screen.
A second heartbeat. We were having twins.
Once the shock wore off and the relief set in that we had seen our babies heartbeats, we started planning our next chapter and every wild dream started becoming a reality.
We were scheduled for another routine scan to monitor the twins progress, one was slightly smaller so the hospital wanted to keep an eye on us.
Our whole world, our new future crumbled in one sentence.
I'm so sorry, I can't find any heartbeats.
I had suffered a silent miscarriage, our twins had passed away.
The next few weeks were a blur, we waited for my body to realise what had happened, but it didn't.
We spent a week in hospital while multiple rounds of medication failed and I ended up having surgery because my body wouldn't let our twins go.
We received amazing care from the midwives, sonographers and surgical team through what has been the worst moment of our lives.
Miscarriage Support supply the hospital with bags to support families through these stays including toiletries and clothes.
We left the hospital with two beautiful memorial boxes for our babies (pictured), also supplied by Miscarriage Support.
I'm going to be walking or running a total of 10km every day for 31 days, the whole month of August to raise money for Miscarriage Support, to allow more families going through this to receive the support that we are so grateful for.
This may not seem like a huge challenge to some, but over the past 3 months, during my pregnancy, losing our twins, surgery and the grieving process my physical and mental health has taken a battering. Just getting dressed or leaving the house can be a challenge some days, so 10km a day is a mountain for me at the moment.
So please, if you’re able to donate we would love your help to support this amazing organisation.
For our twins,
Love mum x
