Putney Town Rowing Club is an open access rowing club located in Mortlake, London. We welcome all users to rowing and run several learn to row courses every year. We are known as one of the most welcoming clubs on the tideway, so please get in touch! Come On The Town!

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Many of you will have at one time or another stumbled into a rowing conversation with me and not know how to escape it.

Introducing Putney Town Rowing Club, my second home, sanctuary and somewhere where you’ll always find a friendly face. I would love more people to be able to access it and I thought that this SoberOctober challenge would be something that not only improve my health but also help to raise funds to improve the accessibility of the club to my friends, family and our community.

Polly, one of my training buddies, and I will be abstaining from any alcohol for the entire month of October. For those of you that don't drink that may seem easy.....but I love a glass of wine, G&T or pint of cider when I am relaxing or spending time with friends.

About PTRC accessibility project:

The total amounts of the accessibility works (compound surfacing and lift) has been costed at £70,000. PTRC has been fortunate enough to receive a £15,000 grant from the Sport England 'Movement Fund' towards this project.

At present there are some challenges with our environment. The compound area has a large central space which is uneven and covered in heavy gravel making it difficult to access the building. The main clubhouse facilities are on the first floor and are only reachable by stairs.

We want to install a stable ground surfacing in our compound area which will allow safe access for members, event guests and the local community who visit the club. The compound area could also double up as extra outdoor space for athletes to train.

The resurfacing will enable the use of the new accessible toilets which we have built on the ground floor.

A lift will provide access to/from the first floor for those who need it.
