Hi everyone!

As many of you will know, in April 2011 I was diagnosed with type one diabetes. It was a huge shock to me and my family - while I had been seriously unwell for many months, it seemed to have passed many doctors by and so when the diagnosis finally came, I remember having a cry in the disabled toilet at a small GP surgery in Devon because I would have to do an injection. The doctor then told me I would be doing 6 injections and up to 12 manual finger prick blood tests a day!!!

While the process of adjusting to this huge lifechanging fact was challenging, scary and isolating, I look back at my diagnosis with some gratitude that to be honest I don't really remember a life without carb-counting, injections, glucose tablets, prescriptions... I was also extremely priveleged to be put on a pump at a very early age and have been well supported by several brilliant teams at Guy's & Thomas' hospital in London. There are many type one diabetics who have not had this experience, and it is for this reason that fundraising for Breakthrough Type One is so important to me.
