These last few years, have taught me the brutality of living in the female body, that we sometimes have to deal with. The truth is, no matter how sad my own experiences felt, and they did; I couldn't help feeling so lucky to have emergency medicine, education about what was happening to me and simple sanitation to hand.

All I could think about was the women going through these things without any healthcare to turn to, any water to wash away what they see, and with the shame and fear about what was happening to them that can be inflicted when education is absent.

I therefore want to do something more to support women in poverty to have access to water, toilets, hospitals, and education in the community (for boys and girls to reduce abuse, stigma and fear girls have in their own bodies without knowledge). I have seen first hand the impact this has had in East Africa, a simple toilet healing the trauma of not feeling safe or comfortable in your own body for years.

I wanted to fundraise and also wanted to fall back in love with my own body again, celebrating the things these crazy female bodies can do, often against the odds.

On 21st June I will do the RunThrough Morzine-Avoriaz trail run, 25km of mountain climbs! I will be using the strength of all the women close to me, and those I have worked with afar and knowing what they have overcome to get me round.
