Story
On Sunday 31st May, the Wales Football Supporters Team will take on an Evan Williams XI at Penydarren Park, Merthyr, Kick off 2.00pm to raise money for Gol Cymru, the Wales Supporters Charitable Organisation in memory of Eleanor Dainton.
Eleanor was a keen supporter of the Wales Fans Team as her son Evan made his debut in the team at Penydarren Park in 2012 and her husband played for the team in its early years, Gareth. Evan has put a team together of his closest friends to take on Wales, although there will be one or two surprise guests playing on the day on both sides.
Eleanor sadly lost her fight against cancer and passed away on Saturday 3rd January 2026, but she will always be remembered as the outgoing friendly loyal member of the Red Wall, going to 45 away games from 2008 to 2025 and a member of the Gol Cymru Committee, raising money to help underprivileged children wherever Wales played.
The money raised over the coming months will go for a number of good causes wherever Wales go and a proportion will be donated to Sail for Cancer a charitable organisation who fund holidays for cancer patients and their children.
If you knew Eleanor and she did make a lasting impression on everyone she met, please make a donation in her memory whether you can make the game or not.
