Elena & Duane's London Marathon Fundraiser for Breakthrough T1D (Formerly JDRF)

London Marathon 2025 Β· 27 April 2025 Β·
My dad & I are running (or crawling) the London Marathon 2025 in April to raise funds for JDRF, a charity that is close to our family.
Last year, my brother was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes after being hospitalised with Diabetes Ketoacidosis (DKA) - he was incredibly sick, and it was a frightening experience for all of us. This has made us as a whole family more aware of the signs and symptoms of Diabetes and the critical need for further research and resources.
Diabetes technology has transformed the way people with type 1 diabetes manage their condition, making everyday life more manageable. Devices like continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps allow for real-time tracking of blood sugar levels and more precise insulin delivery, helping to reduce the risk of dangerous highs and lows. These tools provide greater freedom and peace of mind, allowing diabetics to live more independently while keeping their blood sugar under control. Innovations like these, supported by organizations like JDRF, improve quality of life and ease the burden of diabetes management for people like my brother Sam and many other amazing people.
JDRF is dedicated to helping families like ours by funding research for better treatments, education, and ultimately, a cure. JDRF are currently running multiple projects to UK develop treatments that will help to cure type 1 β and prevent it too. Clinical trials have shown that seven drugs that target the immune system can slow the progression of type 1.
By supporting our run, you are helping JDRF continue their work in transforming the lives of people with Type 1 Diabetes, including Sam and so many others facing similar challenges everyday.
