Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) is a rare hereditary genetic condition causing a lack of AAT, a protein produced by the liver, that protects the body from inflammation.

People with Alpha-1 have malformed AAT that can’t be released by the liver, leading to liver and/or lung disease. Many people remain undiagnosed.

Alpha-1 UK are a not for profit organisation who do fantastic work in providing support and education for patients, families, carers and friends who are affected by Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. They raise awareness of the condition among medical professionals, support research and campaign for better access to treatment for patients with Alpha-1.
