Story
In May 2026, We will be embarking on a trek along the Great Wall of China to raise vital funds for St John Ambulance Cymru, the first aid charity for Wales, and here’s why:
My mum Eliane recently declared that she was going to walk the Great Wall of China, I thought she had lost her mind… As a carer for over 20 years, she always took people to carnivals, parades, festivals etc. and St John Ambulance have always been present and ready to assist with any issues that may arise. The crews have always been friendly, patient and skilled in first aid while remaining free to use. Something we may take for granted until we need help…
From personal experience, they’ve always been ready to help with a whole range of emergencies from helping me with a skateboarding caused broken finger to bringing my stepdad Don from hospital so that he could spent his final days at home with family
I quickly understood my mum’s want to give something back but there’s one small issue… she’s waiting for a new hip. Is she going to wait? No chance, so here we are… Eliane IS going to do it and it looks like I’m going to carry the bags (or her, depending on how it goes).
For 12-days we will take on rocky terrain, steep ascents and descents as the wall follows the mountain contours and stairs, stairs and more stairs but if you know how stubborn she is you know that nothing China can through at her will stop her.
Your sponsorship will support the lifesaving work of St John Ambulance Cymru in their daily endeavour to keep us all safe.
Thank you for your support and look out for the no doubt hilarious content that will arise as I document her efforts!
Diolch,
Eliane and David x
