Story

On 24 April 2027, I’ll be taking on my first ever marathon - the London Marathon - to raise money for Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Services (ADSS), a charity that has become incredibly close to me and my family.

In 2025, my mum was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. Since then, dementia has become a very real part of our family’s life. We are still learning how to navigate it and adapt to the changes and uncertainty it brings.

Dementia affects so much more than memory. It can change everyday life, relationships, independence and plans for the future - not only for the person living with it, but for everyone around them.

After Mum’s diagnosis, my dad wanted to do something to help other families facing the same challenges and became a trustee of ADSS. Through his involvement, we have seen first-hand the incredible difference the charity makes to people affected by dementia.

ADSS is an award-winning charity in Kent providing specialist support to people living with dementia, as well as their families and carers. Its work helps people affected by dementia to continue to live the best and fullest lives they can, while giving families and carers the practical help, guidance and reassurance they need.

Our own experience has made us realise just how important that support is. Access to specialist dementia services varies enormously across the country, and too many people and families still have to navigate the challenges of dementia without the support they need.

Seeing what ADSS achieves has shown us what a difference the right support, at the right time, can make. It’s why the work they do means so much to me personally.

So, on 24 April, I’ll be running 26.2 miles through London for ADSS -but most of all, I’ll be running for my mum.

Training for my first marathon is going to be a challenge, but knowing who I’m doing it for will get me through the long miles.

If you are able to sponsor me, however much, I would be enormously grateful. Every donation will help ADSS continue to be there for people living with dementia and the families and carers alongside them.

Thank you so much for reading my story and for the support!
