Story
I was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in January 2025 aged just 44. It is now the biggest cancer killer of people under 50 in the UK – a trend reflected across the US and Australia.
Although it means my future will look dramatically different to how I’d planned it, I'm determined to live as long and as healthily as possible.
I’ve undergone more than 700 hours of chemotherapy and face many more. I’ve also had a huge, 16-hour operation to try to remove as much cancer as possible.
Exercise helps me physically and mentally. To keep me on track I've got three big challenges to aim for - a sort of triathlon spread over two months!
In September I will be cycling the Tour de 4 in Glasgow. That's followed by Swim Serpentine in Hyde Park two weeks later, and in October I'm doing the 10-mile Great South Run in Portsmouth.
I'm raising money for Portsmouth Bowel Cancer Appeal which was set up by Professor Jim Khan, one of the UK's leading bowel surgeons, along with his former patient, Lorraine Till.
Their aim is to make Portsmouth a centre of excellence for bowel surgery, training and research.
