February Footsteps 2025

I was born with a heart condition, Transposition of the Great Arteries, in 1976 and had a Mustard operation shortly before my first birthday.
The operation was a big success and I've been able to live a normal life, but there have been some issues over the years. The support I've had from the Somerville Heart Foundation, and the community of others born with their heart conditions, has been so helpful in enabling me to incorporate new medication and symptoms into my life.
I'm recovering from a pulmonary embolism - a blood clot on my lung - and after several months where I couldn't do much I'm improving and want to take advantage of the longer days by getting out and about more. I'm not setting myself a specific target, other than to listen to my body, because that is the most important thing. I have signed up to February Footsteps to encourage myself and to raise money for this excellent small charity.
Somerville Heart Foundation helps young people and adults who were born with a heart condition and is the only UK charity dedicated to this purpose. They provide information and advice services plus leaflets, newsletters and events to educate, raise awareness and combat isolation. They also support mental health with counselling and workshops.
