Dublin City Marathon 2023 · 29 October 2023 ·
November 2022 my PT talked me into putting my name into the ballot for Dublin Marathon. Of course ever the optimist I was sure I'd not get picked. How wrong was I?
I was that person who refused to run. Hated the thought of running, believed they couldn't run. Why?
Well after having 4 kids my pelvic floor was not what it once was and if I merely jumped let alone ran there would be a little puddle as evidence. So I didn't run.
But having been picked for Dublin Marathon I had to face my fears and try to learn to run.
First action was to work on my pelvic floor so when my PT told me to do a simple exercise everytime I boiled the kettle I thought let's see if it works. Guess what it works.
Next step start strengthing the body to adapt to this new weird phenomenon. With a weekly PT session and 3/4 other workout sessions a week I was giving my body the best chance to do what it needed to.
Then it was adding another poor person into the equation. Yes getting a run coach to keep me on track and keep me accountable. Little did he know when he took me on how annoying I'd become over the next few months.
Well it's less than 100 days left till that start line moment. I'm nervous but I'm stubborn and pure grit will get me to that finish line.
I'm thankful to be able to do this even if I am slow and ungraveful. Many only wish they could be able and fit to do it so I'll pull up my big girl pants, put in the training and get there.
