Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are running the Great North Run for Team Verrico - who offered significant support to a close friend, Hana, who sadly passed away over 6 years ago with her battle with cancer.
Hana's Mum explains how supportive Team Verrico were for Hana and her family-
‘As you can imagine our heads were in a mess and had asked the Consultant if we could have a second opinion, to which their reply was "well let us know who you want to see! "we had no idea where to start looking, who to ask or what to do next! As a parent you'll understand that you'll try anything that anyone can offer in the way of helping.
To cut a long story short, Alex found the number of Paul Verrico, as someone he worked with was receiving help from them. I gave Paul a call and it felt like someone had lifted a huge weight off my shoulders, as he told me not to worry and that they would arrange for us to visit a top oncologist in Harley street and organise the train journey to London and back for Hana and myself. All of this was at no cost to ourselves!
We had the consultation and was told that new trials would be starting around Christmas time and that he would put Hana forward for this. This gave us so much hope. Unfortunately, Hana didn't make it to December. I think he knew how ill she was, but wanted to give us something to cling onto!
Verrico were in constant contact with us, asking if there was anything we needed and after we lost Hana, right up until this day they keep in touch offering help of any sort including counselling. They are an amazing group of people who don't use one penny from the charity to fund themselves. Everything goes straight into the pot to pay for anything anyone may need.
Any donation to this wonderful charity, which is close to all of our hearts, would hugely appreciated.’
Team Verrico are a no salary charity and are kept afloat through volunteers and fundraising.
They create more tomorrows for families facing cancer. Not only do they fund research products but they also provide practical support such as childcare, transport, counselling, second opinions following diagnosis.
Running half a marathon will be a challenge but a small challenge compared to those and their families faced with a cancer diagnosis.
Please give whatever you can to this fantastic charity allowing more tomorrows for families
Thank you
Liz and Alice 😊
