Story
On the 8th March 2025, we lost our wonderful, intelligent and humorous father to primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma; a brain tumour which started in the lymph tissues of the brain. Dad was his usual jovial self at Christmas, in hospital with a diagnosis by February and very suddenly passed away in March with no real offer of treatment or hope for our family. Our Dad was only 68 and he had a real zest for life. As a family we still had loads more stuff we wanted to do together.
He was the heart of our family, a supportive dad who always had time to give advice, talk through any problems, and mow our lawns! A caring and fun grandpa who'd often find himself rescuing one of his three grandsons from a climbing frame or wedging his long legs into an incredibly tiny fairground ride, and a loyal and loving husband to our wonderful mum Liz. Dad is deeply missed every single day.
To honour his memory and to help others facing this devastating illness we are taking on a series of challenges to raise money for Brain Cancer Research UK. Their lab in Plymouth conducts research linked to CNS Lymphoma and they have assured us our donation will be ring fenced to that specific centre. It costs £2,740 to sponsor a day of research which will accelerate crucial studies, offer hope to other families and improve outcomes and futures.
So.... onto the events!
The BO Tangerine Half
7th March 2026
On the day of the funeral last year we ran from our parents current house in Stone to the house we grew up in in Great Bridgeford. This year, on the anniversary of his death we will double it, doing an out and back which will be the distance of a half marathon. Friends and family will be joining us along the way, proudly wearing tangerine, the colours of Dad's beloved Blackpool FC! Runners will be doing a mixture of distances and a support network of aunties, uncles, cousins and friends will be back at the house looking after the kids!
Our team of walkers, joggers, runners and cyclists include:
Liz O, Faith, Kay and Ian, Orla and Tom, Harry, Dan and Izzy, Nic, and Debs, Mike, John Bob Aedy and Rachel 1 and Rachel 2, Emily Trigg, Mary and Jamie, Will, Saz, Becky, Amy B and Mike, Amy Swar and Leila, Kate and James, Sean, Jake and Ju!!!
Should you wish to join the team and support the fundraising please reach out xx
Sean's Coast to Coast
May 2026
I (and whoever else wants to join me) will be cycling from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Newcastle upon Tyne over 3 days as part of the Coast 2 Coast challenge in May. For those who don't want to cycle, but would like to go to the pub, you can join me for a celebratory pint in Newcastle!!!
Julia's Hampton Court Half
15th February 2026
In preparation for the main event I will be taking part in the Hampton Court Half with my friend Kathleen.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
As Bob Mortimer famously said: "I don't feel scared about death, I just feel so frustrated and sad to think I won't see how stories end. My children's story. My wife's. The football. All the stories going on in the world that you're going to miss the end of."
Dad will never know if Lucy Letby gets acquitted, if Rachel Reeves taxes his pension, if Blackpool win the Premier League, or what his grandchildren will grow up to achieve. So this is for Dad. For Grandpa Basil. For Bas. For better research. For brighter futures, and for more time to grow old with our families.
Love Julia and Sean xxx
