Story
Willowsway Cat Rescue is not just a cat rescue; we are a lifeline for countless felines in need. Our commitment extends beyond simply rescuing and rehoming cats; we are dedicated to helping Feral Colonies. On October 24, we were alerted to a dire situation involving numerous stray cats and their kittens. Initially, we estimated around 30 cats, but as we began our work, it became evident that this was a much larger crisis than anticipated. To date, we have trapped over 80 cats, yet there are still more than 100 that we know of in just one area of Middlewich, Cheshire.
The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated. Each female cat can become pregnant as early as four months old and can have three to four litters each year. With each litter averaging seven kittens, the numbers quickly spiral out of control—one female can contribute to an additional 20 to 28 kittens annually. This cycle perpetuates itself; one colony can add over 100 kittens every year who will also go on to reproduce.
But the issue goes beyond sheer numbers. Inbreeding among these feral cats leads to genetic diseases, higher neonatal mortality rates, and an overall decline in health for these vulnerable animals. Our mission is ongoing, and we plan to expand our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts into wider areas.
To effectively tackle this crisis, we need your help. Each male cat costs £55 to neuter and each female costs £67.50—this does not include additional expenses for flea and worm treatments or potential complications that may require surgical intervention costing up to £100.
We are aiming to raise £500 GBP to support our vital work in reducing the feral cat population and improving their health outcomes. Your contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of these animals who desperately need our help.
