I am proud to be St John's Hospice's longest-serving volunteer, and once again, I am preparing to lace up my walking shoes to support the hospice that has been a cornerstone of my life for over three decades.

On Thursday 3 September 2026, I will take part in a sponsored three-mile walk, retracing the very route I first walked more than 35 years ago during the campaign to help build St John's Hospice. Starting from the Mansion House in Doncaster city centre, I will walk along Priory Place, Cleveland Street, and Balby Road before finishing at St John's Hospice.

This walk holds a special place in my heart. It was first completed as part of the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust's efforts to raise funds for the hospice. Thanks to that campaign, which raised over £2 million across seven years, St John's Hospice opened its doors in 1992. By continuing this annual tradition, I hope to contribute towards ensuring that the hospice can provide compassionate care and vital support for local patients and their families.
