Story

Lucille Bartlett and Liz Whitehead are running the Great North Run on September 7th and Beau Bartlett and Daisy Whitehead are running the junior Mini North Run on September 6th.

We are all running in support of Rob Bartlett who is a dear husband/father/friend who was diagnosed with stage 4 Multiple Myeloma Cancer in May 2022, this is a rare and difficult to diagnose form of cancer, initially it was thought to be a sporting injury however after many tests we were given the devastating news it was cancer.

Rob was an extremely fit and healthy guy who at the time also owned the local gym in Leyburn. He is a highly respected person who helped many people achieve their own goals in their fitness journey, going above and beyond for everyone.

Rob underwent radiotherapy and numerous rounds of chemo, along with dialysis as the cancer had destroyed his kidney function. Rob was offered a stem cell transplant in January 2023 which after his initial diagnosis was thought not possible. This has given him a much better prognosis going forward and opening up other treatment options.

Since the stem cell transplant Rob has come off dialysis which was thought not possible. This has given him a much better quality of life as he can now have family holidays and days out.

Without the myeloma charity research and treatment methods are not possible.

4 New treatments were approved last year, which more options and time with loved ones, and thanks to early diagnosis and more treatment options people are living longer.

With over 33,000 people in the UK living with Myeloma, the need for more treatments has never been greater.

If you can make a gift to support Myeloma Uks work to get more treatments approved on the NHS for everyone who needs them.
