Story
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for our family, it’s a month that holds an incredible amount of meaning.
Last October, I came up with a slightly crazy idea — a 24 Hour Browathon to raise money for the Alaw Cancer Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd.
The Alaw Unit is incredibly special to us as a family. It’s where my mum was cared for throughout her breast cancer treatment last year, supporting her through chemotherapy.
But there’s an even deeper connection for us. My Nain — my mum’s mum and the heart of our family — worked in the Alaw Unit for many years, caring for patients going through their cancer journey herself.
Sadly, we lost my Nain just one week before last year’s Browathon. She was SO excited about my crazy idea and thought I had completely lost the plot when I told her I was going to spend 24 hours doing brows! 😂 But she was incredibly proud and excited to see it all happen.
She sadly never got to see the event, but together we raised an incredible £2,600 for the Alaw Unit in her memory.
This year, I’m bringing the 24 Hour Browathon back — bigger and better, but this time combining a 24hr Backyard Ultra. Every penny of my profits from the Browathon, alongside any additional donations, will be donated to the Alaw Unit.
For our family, this fundraiser is about so much more than money. It’s about giving back to the people who looked after Mum, honouring my Nain and continuing to raise awareness for breast cancer.
This one is for Mum. This one is for Nain. And this one is for everyone whose lives have been touched by cancer🤎🎀
Thank you so much for supporting us. Every donation, share, visit and kind word means more than you know. x
