Story
In June last year, we lost Sean - a wonderful dad to Callum and Hannah, a 20-year partner to Sarah, and a proud father-in-law to Ella - to oesophageal cancer only 8 weeks after his diagnosis.
Sean was an avid traveller, golf player, pilates-doer, CrossFitter, classical music lover, and he really did fit a lifetime of adventures into his 56 years. Never one to do things by half, he did many marathons, triathlons, mountain expeditions, and Iron Mans. He really made the most of his life and his health and has inspired many others to do the same.
The last two months of his life were incredibly hard, but special. Full of laughter, tears, many heartfelt conversations and reflections on a life well lived.
It was an unimaginably difficult time, especially as he neared the end much sooner than anyone could have predicted, but Sean was fortunate to spend his last 10 days in the North Devon Hospice where he (and our whole family) received the absolute best care.
The empathy and compassion shown by everyone we came across, from the amazing doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants and counsellors, to the catering staff and receptionists, made a huge difference to us all in an otherwise very bleak time.
As a charity, the work of the North Devon Hospice relies on donations, and we want to raise as much as we can so they can continue to provide this invaluable care to other families.
Inspired by Sean and his sporting achievements, we are completing a number of events over the next year to raise money for this amazing charity….
