Story
The 18th October 2024 (5 days after the Royal Parks half marathon) will mark 4 years since the death of my Mum in 2020. A day which has shaken my life to the core.
I am running to raise money for Suicide&Co which supports those bereaved by suicide. On a personal level, this charity has supported me since the loss of my Mum. They have provided me with education, specialist suicide counselling and a community to help me feel less alone on this difficult journey that has been the last few years. The counselling received has single handedly got me out of some very dark holes and contributed to the happy life I lead now.
The most recent figures show that there were a reported 6,507 suicides in the UK in a single year, that number of people affected multiplies when you think of the family & friends left behind.
At Suicide&Co, the aim is to start a conversation about suicide-related grief. We recognise that an end like this, should be the start of many new conversations.
The money raised will offer counselling grants to those bereaved by suicide. This is vital in enabling people to move forward with their lives and help them deal with the side effects of grief (i.e anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, trauma symptoms). An incredibly life changing charity; my sole motivation behind signing up for another long ass run (which I intend on training for after the GNR 2021 nearly killed me off).
