Story
On the 4 July 2026 our incredible team will take on a 22 mile trail across a section of this world famous landmark, built to guard the North West frontier of the Roman Empire. Skirting the Northumberland National Park, Hadrian's Wall is just under an hour from the vibrant city of Newcastle, home to a Marie Curie Hospice.
This particular hospice will forever hold a special place in our hearts. I have witnessed the wonderful care and support they provide for not only their patients but their loved ones too. Continue below to read Stephen's story...
When Stephen reached the hardest chapter of his life, Marie Curie stepped in and they didn’t just provide care. They provided love.
They cared for Stephen (my brother-in-law) with dignity, kindness, and compassion at the end of his life, making sure he was comfortable, respected, and never alone. But what made the difference went far beyond medical support. They wrapped their arms around my sister Catherine and the whole family, offering calm reassurance in moments that felt unbearable. They were there in the quiet hours, the uncertain moments, and the overwhelming days. Bringing not just expertise, but humanity. And then, in the middle of heartbreak, they helped create something extraordinary. Marie Curie supported Catherine and Stephen to get married and even provided their wedding cake, a simple act that spoke volumes. It wasn’t just care. It was heart.
These are real people with huge hearts, doing life-changing work at the toughest point anyone can face. They don’t just care for people who are dying, they care for families who are trying to hold it together, for love that refuses to fade, and for moments that matter forever.
Marie Curie makes the unbearable a little gentler, the darkest days a little lighter, and ensures no one faces the end of life alone.
Please support Marie Curie. Because compassion like this changes lives, even at the very end. And donations like yours can make a huge difference. Did you know...
