Ellen is the only Border Scout to have been selected to participate in the World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027. She is raising some of the funds needed for this adventure by hiking from Melrose to the Lauder Scout Hall, via the Southern Upland Way on Sat 5th September. She will be doing this with Isla (the only Scout from the Midlothian region) and some friends.

The fee structure is designed to make participation more equitable and affordable for Scouts from around the world, recognising that economic conditions vary greatly between countries. Countries are divided into different fee categories (usually A, B, C, and sometimes D) based on their economic status. The UK along with countries like USA, Japan, and Germany pay the highest participant fee.

Attending the World Scout Jamboree is a significant event for scouts from various countries, providing a unique opportunity for cultural exchange, learning, and global unity cohesiveness of the global scout movement, projecting a positive and powerful image to the world.

The 26th World Scout Jamboree Site is located on Wyspa Sobieszewska within the borders of the city of Gdańsk, on the coast of the Baltic Sea in northern Poland.

Over 40,000 to 50,000 Scouts and Guides from around the world are expected at the 26th World Scout Jamboree in Gdańsk, Poland (July/Aug 2027), with numbers hovering around 40,000 for the young participants (aged 14-17) plus thousands of adult volunteers (IST) and staff, making it a huge international gathering for cultural exchange and adventure.

The World Scout Jamboree is a major international event organised by the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Held every four years, it brings together tens of thousands of Scouts, aged 14 to 17, from around the globe to promote cultural exchange, friendship, and adventure. The Jamboree provides a unique opportunity for young people to learn from one another, develop leadership skills, and engage in outdoor activities while embracing the Scouting principles of community service, personal growth, and environmental stewardship.

The Jamboree's program includes a variety of educational, recreational, and community service activities, including workshops, team-building exercises, and outdoor pursuits. These experiences help Scouts develop a strong sense of global citizenship and foster a deeper understanding of different cultures, ultimately contributing to a more peaceful and connected world.

Young people can be true inspirations to all of us. They can act for what they believe in, be brave in so many ways, and encourage change. We all need to enable young people to do this safely.
