Story
One in four women will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lifetime and on average one woman is killed every 5 days in England and Wales by a current or former partner.
Alongside my day job, I am part of a team of Domestic Abuse Liaison Officers who provide support and advice to any student experiencing domestic abuse (or relationship abuse). The team is survivor-led and can help students to understand the reporting options available, facilitate referrals to counselling and local authority services, and coordinate appropriate support across all aspects of the University. Above all, the team acts as a liaison service to ensure that students feel believed, supported and safe while they are studying.
Refuge is the largest single provider of specialist services to survivors of domestic, sexual and gender-based abuse and runs the freephone, 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline that provides the first step to women escaping abuse.
I am running 100km (62 miles) around the Lake District to raise money to support Refuge in their vital work.
By kindly sponsoring me today you are helping to save and change the lives of thousands of women and their children. Thank you
