Story
On Friday 3 October, I’ll be taking part in an event for Action for Children, a charity doing vital work to support vulnerable children in the UK.
The event is called Boycott Your Bed, and involves sleeping outdoors for one night to raise awareness around the reality that many children don’t have a safe, stable place to sleep.
4.5 million children now live in poverty in the UK. That’s 31% of all children. Tonight, many children will go to bed hungry in a cold, damp house, and will start tomorrow without a warm coat or shoes that fit.
I believe deeply in this cause, and I encourage you to think about how those in your network may have had childhoods that were not so far removed from the young people that Action for Children support.
While there are social aspects to the event, I have chosen to take part sober in reflection of the vulnerable children affected by alcoholism and addiction.
