Story
Hi, I am Ellie Harrison and I am taking part in a charity race at Newbury Racecourse in aid of HEROS.
Having worked in horse racing for the past 13 years, I have developed a deep passion for the sport. I truly believe that the thoroughbred is one of the most versatile and remarkable breeds of horse.
Owning my own ex-racehorse and watching him thrive as he learns a new career has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It has given me a real insight into the importance of life after racing and the care these horses deserve.
The work that HEROS does to rehome ex-racehorses, pairing them with new owners and supporting them into fulfilling second careers, is truly invaluable. Their dedication ensures that these horses are given the opportunity to continue to flourish beyond the track.
Taking part in this race is my way of giving back to a sport that has given me so much, while also supporting a cause that is incredibly close to my heart.
This race falls directly on my late brother Ricci’s birthday. Whilst being an exciting challenge it is very sentimental.
