The Yorkshire Air Ambulance does NOT receive NHS or government funding. Instead, it relies entirely on charitable donations to keep flying to deliver its life-saving service across Yorkshire.

It has been 10 years since I was directly impacted by this incredible service myself. Being born with Oestogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bones) meant breaking bones wasn’t out of the norm for me but on the 2nd March 2016, I sustained a serious break to my left femur at school and was at risk of haemorrhage.

Because of the rural location of my primary school, travelling by road to James Cook Hospital would’ve taken around 1 hour 20 minutes. Thankfully, the amazing Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called in and I was airlifted to hospital in just 15 minutes!

As a result of their rapid response, I made a strong recovery, with a telescopic rod fitted down the bone which is still in place now. My experience highlights just how important the service provided by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is for rural communities such as Wensleydale.

This fantastic team attends an average of five incidents every day but this comes with an operating cost of approximately £22,000 per day!

On the 29th August, I aim to give back to this life-saving charity, cycling 46 miles through Wensleydale, representing the distance from the site of my accident to James Cook hospital, with some friends and family joining me for a few miles along the way.

There will be a raffle and a bake sale at The Crown Inn in Askrigg which is the finish point of the race so we would love for you to come join us for a pint to be in with the chance of winning!

This bike ride will be a significant challenge for me and I am truly grateful for those who are joining me for a few miles of the ride, supporting behind the scenes for the event and businesses donating raffle prizes.
