The Brain Tumour Charity's Hackney Half Marathon team are going further, faster for a cure!

Story

This fundraising page is in loving memory of Ellie’s dad, Tim. We chose this charity because Tim was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (a type of brain cancer) in September 2023. He underwent brain surgery and cancer treatment which he faced with tremendous courage before peacefully passing on 18 July 2024.

We are running The Hackney Half Marathon in May to raise money. Neither of us are natural runners and are starting as complete beginners but can’t wait to challenge ourselves by raising money for a charity that funds life changing advancements for those affected with brain cancer.

Without treatment, the average survival time for glioblastoma is approximately 3 months. With treatment, this extends to 12–18 months. However, 75% of patients survive less than a year, and 95% survive less than five years. With a final mortality rate approaching 100%, glioblastoma is one of the most aggressive cancers.

Tim never gave up hope, and as a family, we continuously placed our trust and faith in the medical advances being made. By donating to The Brain Tumour Charity, you are helping to honour Tim’s hope. Your generous contributions enable funding into pioneering research, uncovering new treatments, enhancing understanding, improving survival rates, and bringing us closer to a cure.

Thank you for donations, we really appreciate it <3
