Story

In April 2026, I will be taking on the huge challenge of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for a Dementia UK.

I signed up to run this half marathon in memory of my wonderful Nanny Jean, who we sadly lost in January 2023. I wanted to do something special for her — to honour her memory and to raise money for Dementia UK — while my Grandad Bert was still with us, so he could see me complete it in her name.

Heartbreakingly, in October 2025, we also lost my beloved Grandad Bert. Now, I’ll be running this half marathon in memory of them both. They each faced the challenges of dementia in their own way, and this run is my tribute to them both — and to help raise awareness of the awful disease that is dementia. It’s heartbreaking that someone can spend a lifetime building memories and experiences, only for this cruel disease to slowly take them all away.

Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive disorders affecting the brain, including Alzheimer’s disease. It is a devastating condition that affects nearly 1 million people in the UK, impacting not only memory but also thinking, behaviour, and the ability to carry out everyday tasks. It doesn’t just affect those living with it — it deeply touches families and loved ones too. Every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia, making it one of the biggest health challenges of our time. Families affected are often left feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, unsure where to turn. Dementia UK is a specialist charity that provides life-changing support through their amazing Admiral Nurses, who offer practical advice, emotional guidance, and comfort to families facing dementia. Their work ensures that no one has to face the fear and confusion of this cruel disease alone.

Your donations & support are truly appreciated by myself and my family. Thank you so so much in advance.

Nanny & Grandad, I love and miss you both so much. You are both forever in our thoughts. ❤️
