Story
I’m running the Berlin Half Marathon on 4th April 2027 for Wirral Hospice St. John’s in memory of my Mum, June Richards who was a nurse in the NHS for over 40 years.
I chose to do a half marathon because I thought it would challenge me to my absolute physical and mental limits. I’m not a runner at all I find it very difficult and uncomfortable but then I think of my Mum who went through numerous chemotherapy cycles, radiotherapy and surgery, along with all the horrible side effects just to have a chance at beating cancer and then going through more chemotherapy just to have a few more months with her family. She went through extremely difficult and uncomfortable things so in perspective while I am physically able to do something like this I think I can manage to run 21.1k and be temporarily uncomfortable as a way to say thank you to Wirral Hospice for giving Mum the peace she deserved after a difficult few years of fighting.
Wirral Hospice means a lot to me and my family after they looked after my Mum in her final few days after her long fight with Breast Cancer. The hospice helped her to be as comfortable as possible and treated her with compassion. Their support continued towards the family after my Mums passing and we are forever grateful to their entire staff and volunteers for what they do everyday.
Wirral Hospice St John's relies on donations and fundraising activities to help the charity keep caring for patients and their loved ones at a time of most need. They really do go above and beyond for their patients and family during their most difficult moments.
Thank you for your kind support any amount is hugely appreciated!
